CBD 101

CBD is short for cannabidiol. CBD, like other cannabinoids, is found in cannabis plants. Cannabinoids are natural chemical compounds that can be extracted from cannabis and used in various products. When introduced to humans and other mammals, cannabinoids interact with the endocannabinoid biological system.

Both hemp and marijuana, two versions of Cannabis Sativa produce THC and CBD though in varying amounts. Marijuana plants have higher amounts of THC, the chemical responsible for pot’s high; hemp plants have higher levels of CBD. THC and CBD have similar chemical structures but their effects are very different.

We use full spectrum hemp derived CBD with less than 3% THC in all of Parris Wellness CBD collection.  This trace amount of THC found in full spectrum hemp CBD is not psychoactive and will not make you high. We value the full spectrum Hemp derived CBD because of the many health benefits of all the CBD molecules.

Our CBD is locally sourced from an organic farm in upstate NY.

This farm produces only pure CBD hemp, providing premium, high quality hemp CBD which is verified by third-party lab reports.  Their process begins  by cultivating the seeds, then growing and harvesting the hemp CBD grown sustainably on the rich soil of the Hudson, NY area.  Once harvested the hemp is carefully processed and undergoes CO2 extraction and quality testing, creating 100% CBD-rich hemp. We at Parris Wellness begin with pure, responsibly farmed, locally sourced full spectrum CBD hemp that you can trust for efficacy, safety and quality with each CBD formula.

What is the endocannabinoid system?

The endocannabinoid system is a complex network of molecules, receptores and enzymes found throughout the body, primarily in the central nervous system. It helps regulate various cognitive and physiological processes in order to promote homeostasis in our body. The ECS controls mood, appetite, immune function, sleep and pain sensation.  It is thought to exist in all humans and  animals on earth, and it is absolutely crucial to our survival.

The cannabinoid receptors exist on the surface of cells and monitor the internal functioning throughout the body, helping to maintain the stability of our internal environment. For example, pain from an injury dysregulates the body’s homeostasis requiring the ECS to become activated and accelerate the healing process.

Scientists have identified two primary cannabinoid receptors, called the CB1 and CB2 receptors. Although both types of receptors can be found all throughout the body, CB1 receptors are more highly concentrated in the brain and central nervous system, whereas CB2 receptors can be found more abundantly in the immune system, organs, and tissues.

There are cannabinoids found in plants, called phytocannabinoids, but the body also produces its own, which are referred to as endocannabinoids. These molecules are created whenever we need them, usually in response to some change in the body. They can bind directly with the cannabinoid receptors – you can think of them as slotting into one another like a jigsaw puzzle or a lock and key. Endocannabinoids are made from fat-like molecules within cell membranes. Once the endocannabinoids have fulfilled their usage, metabolic enzymes are able to break them down again. This ensures that the endocannabinoids are not used for longer than necessary.

It is though the endocannabinoid system that CBD binds to the receptores sites is abundant throughout the body playing an important role in the regulation of a wide range of functions and processes. Scientist have concluded that cannabinoids compounds found in CBD have a positive effect enhancing:

  • pain reduction
  • sleep
  • mood
  • appetite
  • memory
  • reproduction and fertility

How does CBD work to ease pain?

Topical CBD products can help address pain or inflammation that’s at a specific area of your body, such as at the joints, tendons, fascia and muscles. The product won’t enter the bloodstream therefore our topical CBD products will not address systemic problems, but it is used to relieve painful conditions at the specific area of discomfort.  Hemp derived CBD interacts with the cannabinoid receptors reducing pain.

Our cooling and deep heat CBD gels are formulated to ease the pain and soothe painful conditions by activating the endocannabinoid system. The  high concentration of cannabinoid receptors on the skin allows hemp derived CBD potentially to assist by modulation and regulation of the pain receptor sites, reducing pain and easing discomfort. Plant based solutions have a powerful effect on regulation and reduction of pain and dysfunction, helping you to get back to returning to the activities that support quality of life.
